How to Migrate from PrestaShop to WooCommerce
Transfer PrestaShop combinations, catalog rules and customer history to WooCommerce, then test the purchase flow and final stock reconciliation.
To migrate from PrestaShop to WooCommerce, prepare a separate WordPress store, choose a transfer method that covers your PrestaShop data, and import a representative sample before moving the full catalog. Rebuild the theme and module workflows, validate combinations and customer records, map changed URLs, then reconcile orders and inventory before switching the domain.
The important detail is what counts as a product. A PrestaShop product with color and size combinations must become a working WooCommerce product with the correct sellable variations, not a description that merely lists the options.
Arrange the migration and daily store work with Niwa
Niwa Business is USD 150 for a custom WordPress website or migration, hosting, maintenance and AI adaptation. Agree your combinations, customer history, languages and module replacements as part of the migration scope. Multishop rules or wholesale pricing may require additional implementation that must be specified.
After transfer, the Niwa customer assistant can use the WooCommerce catalog to help shoppers choose available sizes and colors and use supported website cart actions. Niwa also uses that business context for direct sales through connected WhatsApp conversations. An authorized owner can request a variation stock change or edit a product description. Existing WordPress owners can install the Niwa AI plugin without commissioning another site.
Back up the source and define the data model
Save a database backup and copies of product images, attachments and download files. Record your PrestaShop version, database prefix and modifications. Store credentials securely and give the migration process only the access it requires.
Create an inventory of products, features, attributes, combinations, categories, customers, orders, vouchers and CMS pages. Add customer groups, specific prices, translations and multishop assignments where used. For each item, decide whether to import it, recreate its behavior or retain it only in an archive.
A PrestaShop feature, such as fabric composition, describes the product. A combination, such as blue in size M, can affect availability and price. Preserve that distinction when mapping the catalog.
Choose an importer that includes your combinations
FG PrestaShop to WooCommerce lists basic products, categories, tags, images and CMS content in its core import. Its Premium feature list includes combinations, attributes, customers and orders. Customer groups, some pricing functions and translations have separate add-on coverage. Check the exact edition and add-ons before relying on a feature.
For that plugin, install and activate WooCommerce first. Install the importer on the destination, open Tools > Import > PrestaShop, enter the source connection settings and test the database connection. Use the configuration location appropriate to your PrestaShop version; do not blindly copy settings from a tutorial for an older release.
If the destination cannot reach the source database, ask the hosting provider to arrange a controlled connection or a separate database copy. Do not make the production database publicly accessible. A different migration service may use different connection requirements.
Test a difficult product before the full run
Choose a shirt with two colors and three sizes, different stock for each combination, and a price adjustment on one size. Compare the source and destination for:
- Parent product and variation SKUs.
- Attribute names, selectable values and default selection.
- Price and tax treatment for each combination.
- Stock quantity and out-of-stock behavior.
- Combination image and product gallery.
- Weight and shipping behavior where these differ.
Buy one available combination in a test checkout. Confirm the order contains the correct variation and its stock changes alone. A parent stock figure cannot substitute for six independent combination quantities.
Then inspect a simple product, a discounted product and any virtual or downloadable product. Check access to the actual download file and historical permissions if those must be retained.
Rebuild modules, prices and language structure
PrestaShop themes and modules do not run as WordPress themes and plugins. Recreate navigation, product pages, checkout and the functions your modules supplied. Keep the destination on protected staging until the whole purchase flow works.
Treat customer-group prices, quantity discounts, vouchers and currency conversions as business rules. Confirm which rule should win when several apply. Compare a representative retail order with a wholesale order instead of checking only the visible base price.
For multilingual stores, select the destination language system before importing translations. Record which source fields map to each language and test language-specific product links. For multishop, define which shop's content, prices and stock belong in the destination. Merging every shop without a plan can change the business meaning of the data.
Validate customer accounts and orders
Import the products and customer relationships needed by the order history. Compare order dates, status, line items, discounts, addresses and totals. Preserve source references if support staff must locate an old PrestaShop order.
The FG Premium listing describes authentication with PrestaShop passwords. Treat that as a capability to test against your installation, not an assurance for every customization. Verify a controlled customer login, password reset and access to that customer's own records.
Keep staging emails, fulfillment and accounting automations from firing for imported historical orders. Record what will happen to old vouchers, loyalty points and payment arrangements that are outside the chosen transfer method.
Redirect the old pages and make the final transfer
Collect source product, category and CMS URLs, including important language versions. Map each to its new destination and test the redirect rules after import. Do not redirect every removed product to the home page. Give the reader a relevant destination where one exists.
Before changing DNS, reconcile orders and stock created since the trial import. Confirm whether a repeat run updates known source records and inspect its logs before rerunning a failed batch. Take a destination backup before the final operation.
Test payment success and failure, shipping, coupons, customer emails and mobile checkout. Keep the source and restore instructions available so the team can recover if the launch reveals a serious transaction problem.
Check the store through an actual customer question
Configure Niwa using the migrated catalog and your delivery and exchange policies. Ask which shirt is available in blue in size M and verify the answer against the variation. A shopper can select it through the website cart flow or complete the connected sales workflow directly with Niwa on WhatsApp. Check the resulting order for the exact combination and quantity, not just the parent product name.
For owner work, request a stock update for that exact combination and check the saved WooCommerce record. This exposes a mapping error that a simple product count would miss.
Send your PrestaShop version, store URL and examples of combinations or special pricing through Niwa's contact page. Include the modules and language structure that must survive the move so the scope can be agreed before work starts.
