How to Transfer a Weebly Website to WordPress

Move a Weebly website to WordPress with a page archive and separate blog plan. Rebuild the design, verify images, map .html URLs and test business functions.

To transfer a Weebly website to WordPress, archive the ordinary pages, recover blog and store content separately, and build an editable WordPress site around that material. Copy the media, map the old addresses and test forms or other business functions before changing the domain. Weebly’s ZIP archive does not contain a complete blog or store migration.

Niwa Business includes a custom WordPress site or migration, hosting, maintenance and AI tools adapted to the business for USD 150. Send Niwa your Weebly address and the pages, blog posts and functions you need to keep. Agree the scope and billing terms before work begins.

For a small food business, the destination might combine a menu, ordering information and an assistant that answers questions from approved product details. Niwa’s customer assistance tools can operate after launch. Using AI to assemble a website does not by itself provide that ongoing service.

Confirm which editor contains your website

Start in the account that owns the site. Confirm that you are working with the Weebly editor and record who can access its settings, domain and content. A Square Online site may have a different interface and export route; do not apply Weebly archive instructions merely because the accounts are related.

Separate the website from services attached to it. A domain registration, email account or payment account may continue independently of the page builder. List which services you want to retain before cancelling anything.

Make a content inventory while the old site is accessible. Record page URLs, titles, navigation order, downloads and important images. Count blog posts, note comments you want to preserve, and list store or appointment features. Screenshots help reconstruct a layout, but they do not replace editable text or original media.

Download the archive and understand its limits

Weebly’s site backup guide describes the archive route under Settings → General → Archive. Enter an email address and request the archive, then download the ZIP from the email. Keep an untouched copy outside the old account.

The archive contains static page material. Weebly excludes database-backed blog and store content, and functions such as forms or slideshows may not work elsewhere. The ZIP cannot simply be reimported into Weebly as a restoration method either.

Extract the archive into a local folder and inspect what it contains. Compare the pages and media with your inventory. Never assume that a download with the right site name includes every part of the website.

Source material WordPress migration task
Ordinary page text and assets in the ZIP Rebuild editable pages and upload useful media
Blog posts and comments Recover separately and verify archive completeness
Store data Agree an account-specific export and destination mapping
Forms and interactive widgets Recreate the function and test its saved result
Old paths ending in .html Preserve or redirect each relevant address
Theme styling and layouts Rebuild with an editing approach the owner can maintain

For a bakery with a few service pages and years of recipe posts, the blog is a separate workstream. An archive that preserves the About page provides no evidence that those recipes have moved.

Choose a route for the blog

WordPress.com’s Weebly import documentation describes manual copying, suitable migration plugins and a third-party converter that produces a WordPress import file. These are different routes with different requirements. A Weebly ZIP is not a WordPress XML import file.

For a small archive, copying the posts into WordPress can be practical. Preserve publication dates, headings, links and image credits where appropriate. Use a spreadsheet to mark each copied post and its new URL so omissions are visible.

A converter or plugin may help with a larger archive. Check its current availability, destination compatibility, handling of media and comments, and any payment terms before relying on it. Test on a backed-up staging site and compare the output with the original. Do not assume that an RSS-based route contains every historical post.

Some converter instructions discuss turning off SSL. Do not make disabling HTTPS on a live business site a routine migration step. Assess the particular tool and use another recovery route if its requirements do not fit your site. No converter has been tested on your account merely because it appears in a support article.

Build WordPress around editable content

Prepare a staging or temporary WordPress address while Weebly remains live. Choose page patterns that suit the content, then create navigation, the header and footer. Decide whether the owner will edit with WordPress blocks or an existing page builder.

Copy text into native editable fields rather than placing a whole page into an image. Upload original images where possible, add appropriate alt text and replace old asset URLs. Check downloads as well as visible pictures.

WordPress’s importing-content guide explains format-specific importers. If a recovery tool produces WordPress XML, use the corresponding importer. If you have plain HTML pages, rebuild those pages or use a deliberately chosen HTML import process; renaming a file does not create an editable WordPress theme.

Inspect several long posts and less prominent pages after import. Count records, review dates and categories, and open the actual image addresses. Files still hosted exclusively by Weebly need a plan before the source is retired.

Recreate the functions behind the page

A contact form should deliver a message to the intended inbox and retain it wherever your business expects. Test the confirmation and error states. Check slideshows, maps, downloads, buttons and any third-party embeds individually.

If the site sells products, treat that as more than a page-copying task. Determine which products, variants, customer records and order history can be exported from your particular account. Agree the destination format and test payments, shipping and confirmation messages separately.

For a service business, Niwa’s booking tools connect appointment requests to the configured schedule. Niwa uses your service information to answer questions and book directly through a WhatsApp conversation. Check the saved appointment and confirmation. Include existing reservations in the transition plan if the scheduling system changes.

Weebly sites often use paths ending in .html. Record the actual paths rather than removing that ending everywhere by assumption. Keep suitable URLs where possible; otherwise configure permanent redirects to the matching WordPress pages. An old recipe link should reach that recipe, not merely the homepage.

Carry over useful SEO titles and descriptions. Review canonical URLs, internal links and the sitemap. Test the site on a phone, especially menus, forms and recipe images. Confirm that staging restrictions will be removed when the site goes live.

Only after the destination passes review should you change the website DNS records. Preserve email records unless email is part of the agreed migration. Verify HTTPS, redirects and business functions on the live domain, and retain the source account until missing-content checks are complete.

If you already operate a WordPress site, the standalone Niwa plugin can be installed without another rebuild. For a Weebly migration, ask Niwa to review the inventory first. The archive, separate blog plan and function list provide a concrete basis for the work.
