Is It Safe to Use AI-Generated Website Code?
Decide when to accept AI-generated website code, what needs human review and why working previews cannot prove security or reliable operation.
AI-generated website code can be used, but generation alone does not establish that it is safe. Accept it only after review and testing appropriate to what it controls. A layout change and a payment or customer-account feature have different consequences if they fail. Someone needs to understand the deployed result, its permissions and how to recover from a problem.
Niwa supports scoped WordPress work through existing permissions and tools. Its maintenance approach centres on a defined request and verification. Treat that operating method as part of the work; an assistant's ability to produce code is not a security guarantee.
Start with what the code is allowed to affect
Find out whether the proposed change only affects a visible page or also runs on the server, reads customer information or changes business records. A small-looking button can call a powerful server operation. You need to understand the operation behind it before deciding how much review is appropriate.
For a simple presentation change, verify that it stays within its intended page or component and works with the real content. For a checkout, account area or data integration, bring in someone who can examine permissions and server behaviour as well as the interface.
Prefer an established platform feature when it already satisfies the requirement. A supported form, editor control or booking system can avoid introducing custom code that your team would then need to maintain. The feature still needs correct configuration and a working customer test.
Review the actual code and connected services
GitHub's responsible-use guidance for agents advises reviewing and testing generated work. It discusses errors, security risks and the need for human judgment. A response that confidently describes its own code as secure is not evidence of a qualified review.
The reviewer should understand the relevant trust boundaries: what arrives from the browser, what the server checks and which account can perform an action. Verify that private configuration stays in an appropriate server environment and that the published browser code does not contain credentials.
Ask about dependencies the generated change introduces. Identify what each one does, why it is needed, who maintains it and how updates will be handled. Extra packages are an operational commitment even when the initial installation is easy.
For security-sensitive custom work, the OWASP Code Review Guide provides a structured reference for a reviewer. It does not turn a business owner into a security specialist or certify a site automatically.
Test behaviour that a visual preview cannot show
A successful page load establishes only that a particular request rendered. It does not prove that a user cannot access another account's information, submit an unauthorised action or break a record with unexpected input.
Use a controlled test arrangement for important flows. Review an allowed action and a denied action with the relevant roles. Follow a submitted enquiry or booking to its resulting record. Include an ordinary failure case, such as unavailable capacity or missing required information, and check that the customer receives an accurate outcome.
These examples define what needs evidence; they are not instructions to probe systems you do not own. A technical implementer should choose tests appropriate to your own site and its consequences.
Keep changes small enough to explain and undo
A focused change is easier to inspect than a prompt that rewrites several unrelated systems. Require the implementer to explain what changed, why it was necessary and which existing behaviour was checked. Keep a record of the reviewed version so the deployed code can be identified later.
Before changing a WordPress site, arrange a usable recovery copy. WordPress's backup documentation covers files and the database. A code rollback alone may not reverse a database change or restore information removed by an operation.
Use a separate test environment when the change could affect customers or business records. Verify the intended deployment after release, because a successful local test does not establish that the live configuration has the same behaviour.
Distinguish visitor assistance from custom engineering
If you mainly want customers to understand products or services, you may not need newly generated application code at all. On an existing WordPress site, Niwa's standalone plugin provides supported assistant capabilities. Review the setup guide to establish the required information and connections before requesting a custom feature.
When custom work is necessary, name the person responsible for reviewing it and maintaining it after launch. Include support for dependency changes and failed connections in the arrangement. Safe acceptance is an ongoing responsibility, rather than a one-time statement from the generator.
If you need a supported WordPress site or migration, Niwa Business is USD 150 and includes hosting, maintenance and AI adaptation alongside that site or migration. Describe the proposed change to Niwa so its scope and review needs can be assessed. Accept generated code when the relevant behaviour has evidence and responsibility attached to it.
