How to Migrate from Magento to WooCommerce

Move Magento to WooCommerce with explicit product-type mapping, store scope, account checks and operational testing before cutover.

To migrate from Magento to WooCommerce, build a staging store in WordPress, define how Magento's product types and store scopes map to WooCommerce, and transfer the required records through a compatible importer or a controlled custom process. Rebuild extensions and storefront behavior, validate customers and orders, then reconcile new data and install redirects before launch.

Magento migrations need more than matching product counts. A configurable product, a bundle and a grouped product may all appear as one catalog entry while requiring different purchase behavior in the destination.

Define a Magento migration scope with Niwa

Niwa Business is USD 150 and includes a custom WordPress website or migration, hosting, maintenance and AI tools adapted to the business. Agree which Magento websites, stores, product types and historical records are included. Complex bundles, ERP connections and customer-specific pricing need explicit coverage.

Once the new catalog is accurate, the Niwa assistant can help a shopper compare described products and select a supported purchasable variation. It uses the website's business context to carry out connected sales workflows directly on WhatsApp as well. An authorized owner can use Niwa for stock and product-content work. If you already have WooCommerce, you can install the standalone Niwa plugin there.

Identify your Magento installation and store scope

Record whether the source is Magento Open Source or Adobe Commerce, its version, extensions and database modifications. Back up the database, media and configuration securely. Keep a separate source archive for records you will not transfer.

List the websites, stores and store views that matter. Decide which source supplies each product's description, language, price and availability. Do not flatten several store views into one field without choosing what customers should see.

Inventory attribute sets, configurable relationships, grouped products, bundles, downloads, tier prices, customer groups and inventory sources. Write down the replacement for each business rule. A platform change can be a deliberate simplification, but the owner should approve what changes.

Choose the data route and required extensions

Magento's native export documentation describes CSV exports for supported entities. An export file still needs destination mapping; it is not a WooCommerce-ready copy of the whole store.

FG Magento to WooCommerce lists basic catalog and CMS import, with attributes, variations, customers and orders among Premium features. Its add-ons include coverage for areas such as bundle products and tiered prices. Verify the specific feature and source version you need rather than assuming Premium means every extension is handled.

The Migrate Import Magento documentation describes another extension's connection and import controls. Compare access requirements, supported product types, repeat-import behavior and logs before choosing a route. Keep database credentials or API tokens private and remove temporary migration access afterward.

Prepare WooCommerce on protected staging with a compatible theme, shipping, taxes and payment methods. Magento themes and modules do not become WordPress components by importing their files.

Map product types before importing the full catalog

Use a small sample that represents the difficult parts of your store:

  • A simple product with ordinary stock and a gallery.
  • A configurable product with several available and unavailable variants.
  • A grouped product whose components can be purchased separately.
  • A bundle with selectable components and pricing rules.
  • A virtual or downloadable item where relevant.

For every sample, check identifiers, images, prices, tax class mapping, weight, stock and purchase restrictions. Confirm that the storefront can add the intended configuration to the cart. If a bundle needs a destination extension, configure that extension before deciding that the import succeeded.

Consider a drill kit with two battery capacities. The selected capacity must match the recorded SKU, price and inventory. If the kit includes independently stocked components, buying the kit must affect the agreed component inventory. A product page with two text options does not prove those relationships survived.

Recreate operational rules and order history

Compare customer-group prices, quantity tiers, coupons and currency behavior using representative orders. Test the price seen by a retail visitor and an authenticated business customer. Define how inventory sources become destination stock rules or connections.

Import customers and historical orders with the relationships your support team requires. Check paid, canceled and refunded examples, order references, totals and dates. Historical imports should not send fresh payment, fulfillment or review requests to customers unless that is intentional.

If your transfer route supports source password authentication, test a controlled account and reset flow. Confirm that it can view only its own records. Custom identity providers or account rules may require separate work.

Subscriptions, saved payment methods and ERP transactions are not just ordinary product fields. Agree their transition with the responsible provider. Do not activate billing from a copied historical record.

Replace the Magento storefront and URL behavior

Build templates, menus, filters and search for the destination. Test the attributes shoppers actually use to find a product. Recreate necessary CMS pages and their internal links.

Map Magento URL rewrites and important category paths to the correct WordPress destinations. Check changed suffixes, language routes and duplicate paths. Test permanent redirects for loops and chains. Preserve meaningful titles and descriptions, while updating claims or navigation that no longer match the new store.

Moving the domain does not guarantee unchanged rankings. Monitor important landing pages and search visibility after the switch, and correct missing destinations promptly.

Reconcile changes and approve launch

Define which system remains the source of truth while staging is being built. Before launch, transfer the orders, accounts and inventory changes made since the first import. Check the importer's resume and update rules before retrying a partial run; inspect existing records instead of creating duplicates blindly.

Test desktop and mobile purchases, payment success and failure, shipping, emails, order handling and integration updates. Back up the destination before cutover. Keep the previous system and a written rollback route for the agreed recovery period.

Test Niwa against a migrated configuration

Configure Niwa with the checked product data and business policies. Ask which drill kit suits a described need and verify its answer against the catalog. On the website, select a purchasable configuration and confirm the cart. Niwa can also help choose the kit and perform the connected sales workflow directly in a WhatsApp conversation. In either route, inspect the resulting order for the selected configuration and its price.

For owner work, identify a specific SKU or variation, request a stock or content change and inspect the saved result. This tests the operational purpose of the migration rather than only its record count.

Contact Niwa with your Magento version, store scope, product-type examples and essential integrations. Agree the record coverage and acceptance checks before implementation.
