How to Migrate from BigCommerce to WooCommerce

Migrate BigCommerce products, customers and orders to WooCommerce. Check modifiers, variants, price rules and external sales channels before launch.

To migrate from BigCommerce to WooCommerce, prepare a WordPress store, extract the catalog and other records through exports or a compatible API-based migration process, and map them to the destination. Rebuild product-option behavior and integrations, test customers and orders, then reconcile the final changes before redirecting the old store and switching the domain.

Pay particular attention to variants and modifiers. A selectable option that changes a purchased item is not necessarily a separately stocked SKU. The new store must preserve what the option does, not just display its label.

Set the BigCommerce transfer scope with Niwa

Niwa Business is USD 150 and includes a custom WordPress website or migration, hosting, maintenance and AI adaptation. Specify the product options, order history, pricing and channel connections that must be moved. B2B rules and custom integrations need explicit agreement.

After the catalog is verified, the Niwa assistant can answer product questions and help shoppers choose a supported variation before using website cart actions. On WhatsApp, it uses the same business context to complete connected sales workflows in the conversation. The owner can request authorized stock and product-content changes. If WordPress is already in place, install the standalone Niwa plugin on that site.

Inventory the catalog and connected workflows

Record products, variant SKUs, options, modifiers, images, categories, brands, custom fields, customers and orders. Add coupons, reviews, gift cards and any data supplied by apps. List the channels and systems that currently change prices, stock or order status.

For each dataset, define the transfer method and a way to validate the result. Separate customer accounts from newsletter subscribers. Decide whether historical orders must remain visible in the new customer account or can stay in a controlled archive.

Save exports and configuration records before starting. Keep customer records private. Record the URLs that receive search traffic, links or paid traffic so they can be preserved or mapped deliberately.

Choose a transfer process that reads the right records

BigCommerce's catalog documentation describes products, variants and related catalog data. An API-based transfer needs appropriate authorized read access and must retrieve every required page of results. A first page of records is not an export of the whole store.

The order API overview and customer documentation cover separate resources. Check whether your chosen migration tool reads order line items, addresses, customer relationships and other required details, rather than only summary rows.

If you use available control-panel exports instead, inspect the actual fields in those files. Map them to a destination importer that covers the required entities. WooCommerce's product importer alone does not transfer customer accounts or order history.

Choose a currently supported migration extension or a scoped custom process based on entity coverage, authentication, logs and repeat-run behavior. Give temporary access only to the required source data, and revoke it after the transfer is accepted.

Prepare WooCommerce and map option behavior

Install WordPress and WooCommerce on protected staging. Configure payment, shipping, tax and currency rules, then rebuild the storefront using a WordPress theme. BigCommerce theme files and app installations do not become WooCommerce components.

For each product option, decide whether the destination needs a WooCommerce variation or a separate product-options extension. A ceramic mug with independently stocked colors may use variations. A customer's requested inscription needs a field on the order and possibly a price adjustment. Inventing a stocked SKU for every inscription would change the inventory model.

Import one product that includes both kinds of choice. Check the selected SKU, final price, stock movement, inscription text and order display. Make sure the fulfillment team receives the information it needs.

Test pricing and order relationships

Compare normal prices, sale prices, customer-specific prices and quantity rules where used. Run sample purchases for the customer groups that matter. A public catalog price is not sufficient evidence that a business buyer's agreement survived.

Import customers before records that must reference them. Check a guest order, an account order and a refunded order. Verify line items, totals, dates, addresses, shipping and customer ownership. Define the mapping between source order states and the new fulfillment process.

Prevent imported historical orders from sending new customer notifications or fulfillment requests. Confirm the destination's account activation or reset flow. Do not assume source passwords, saved payment methods or subscription arrangements transfer through ordinary customer exports.

Reconnect channels without competing stock updates

List which system will control stock after launch. If BigCommerce currently supplies inventory to an external channel, its connection needs a deliberate handover or replacement. Two systems writing the same quantity can overwrite each other's changes.

Test the new connection with an authorized sample transaction. Verify the product mapping, order import, inventory update and cancellation path. Schedule the switch so a source connector is not still pushing stale values after WooCommerce becomes authoritative.

Recreate essential search filters, navigation, content pages and tracking. Check important storefront paths against the old URL inventory and install permanent redirects for changed pages.

Make the final transfer and validate checkout

Choose a cutover window and define whether the source checkout pauses or the migration process captures later changes. Transfer the orders, customers and inventory updates created since the first run. Inspect logs and existing IDs before retrying any failed batch.

Test payment success and failure, shipping, discounts, emails, stock and fulfillment on desktop and mobile. Compare record counts within the agreed scope, then inspect representative records and relationships. A matching total cannot reveal a missing product image or an order attached to the wrong account.

Change the domain routing after acceptance checks pass. Keep backups and the previous environment for the agreed recovery period. Monitor redirects, payments and connector activity after launch.

Use Niwa with the checked product choices

Configure Niwa against the new catalog and business policies. A shopper can ask which mug colors are available and how personalization works. The answer should match the product's actual choices. Supported website cart actions must retain the selected variation and required options. On WhatsApp, Niwa can answer those questions and carry out the connected sale directly in the conversation. Verify that the saved order preserves the chosen color and inscription where personalization is configured.

For owner work, request a stock change for a particular color and inspect the saved record. Do not treat an inscription field as a stock quantity.

Contact Niwa with your catalog structure, source store URL, channel list and historical-record requirements. Agree those relationships and the final transfer checks before implementation.
