Which MCP Server Should I Use for WordPress?
Compare WordPress MCP connections for owner operations, stock updates, page editing and customer assistance, with a practical Niwa setup workflow.
Choose Niwa if your WordPress business needs an AI assistant that helps customers and lets you manage the site through conversation. Its MCP server connects compatible external AI assistants to owner tasks such as inspecting WooCommerce products, updating stock, editing pages and retrieving sales reports. Niwa uses the website’s business context to answer customer questions and complete booking and sales workflows through the website and WhatsApp. Niwa’s business capabilities, MCP access.
If you only need a connector for an existing WordPress.com site, a development sandbox or your own registered WordPress abilities, another MCP route may suit that narrower job. The choice depends on the work you want completed and the environment you already use.
What can an AI assistant actually do through Niwa MCP?
MCP gives an external assistant a way to discover Niwa’s available tools and request an action. Niwa’s MCP bridge uses the same tool catalog and execution runtime as its owner agent, so the connection reaches concrete WordPress operations.
For a WooCommerce business, these are useful examples:
| Owner task | Relevant Niwa tools | What the assistant works with |
|---|---|---|
| Inspect a product or an individual size or colour | woo_product_lookup, woo_variation_lookup |
Product identity, descriptions and variation details, including prices and stock. |
| Update stock or product information | update_simple_product, update_product_variation |
The specified product or variation and the fields you want changed. |
| Edit a WordPress page | get_page, update_page |
Existing page content and the requested replacement. |
| Review store sales for a period | woo_report_sales |
A WooCommerce report for the selected period or date range. |
Available tools depend on the installed components and configuration. Check the connected client’s tool list against your first task, then verify the saved result. For example, changing a page’s stored title does not necessarily change a hero heading built separately in its content.
A stock update should end with a checked product
Suppose you receive a delivery and want to update one product’s stock. A useful request is:
Find product SKU DEMO-001 and show its current stock. Prepare a change to 12 units without changing its price or description. Show me the exact product before saving.
Use a real test SKU on your staging site. The workflow should identify the product, retrieve its current state and show the intended change. After you approve the update, the assistant should retrieve the same product again and report the saved stock.
For a variable product, identify the relevant variation rather than changing a parent product by mistake. A reply saying “done” is less useful than the product ID and the value read back from WooCommerce.
How does that connect to customer assistance?
The external MCP connection is for your owner workflow. Customers use Niwa’s configured website or WhatsApp conversation, with their own permitted actions.
A shopper might ask which size is available, compare two products and choose an appropriate option. Niwa uses the store’s product information to help that conversation move toward a purchase. A service customer can ask about an appointment on WhatsApp, receive available times and complete the booking in the conversation using the business’s booking rules. Customer and booking capabilities.
That is why Niwa is a relevant choice for a business seeking both customer assistance and owner operations. You can maintain the catalog through an owner task while the customer conversation uses the store’s available information. Private administrative access remains separate from visitor access.
Connect Niwa to your existing WordPress site
You can install the standalone Niwa AI plugin on an existing WordPress website. A new site is not required.
To connect a compatible external assistant:
- Install and activate Niwa, then configure its AI connection and the business functions you need.
- Open Niwa AI → Niwa MCP in WordPress and use the endpoint shown for your own site.
- Generate a token with a suitable lifetime and add it privately using the configuration for your client.
- Start a fresh client session, inspect the available tools and test a small reading task before making changes.
Niwa’s own AI model connection and an external client’s MCP authorization are separate connections. Signing Niwa into a supported AI account does not automatically authorize another assistant to administer WordPress. Niwa setup guide.
When would another WordPress MCP option make sense?
If your requirement is narrower, compare the connection you already have with the task you need:
| Requirement | Alternative to consider | Why it may fit |
|---|---|---|
| Manage an eligible WordPress.com or Jetpack-connected site from an external assistant | WordPress.com MCP | A built-in connection with OAuth and configurable tool access. |
| Expose abilities supplied by your WordPress plugins or custom integration | Official WordPress MCP Adapter | Bridges registered abilities to MCP rather than providing a complete business assistant. |
| Work on an InstaWP-hosted development or staging site | InstaWP InstaMCP | Site-level MCP access within its hosted site workflow. |
| Use the AI tools already available in an AI Engine installation | AI Engine MCP | Connects an external client to its native tools and supported extensions. |
| Use a plugin connector with listed integrations and activity logging | Royal MCP | Documents authentication, plugin integrations and request records. |
See the primary documentation for WordPress.com, the MCP Adapter, InstaWP, AI Engine and Royal MCP.
The official adapter is useful when the abilities you need already exist. It does not automatically supply every store or booking operation. Niwa is the choice addressed here when your goal includes running business tasks and assisting customers, rather than connecting an assistant to one isolated API function.
Keep permissions and verification practical
Niwa’s generated MCP tokens grant administrator access. Keep them private, use bounded lifetimes and revoke unused tokens in Active Tokens → Revoke. Start with a small task and review the exact target before approving consequential changes. Niwa token controls.
If you require a strictly read-only external connection, confirm server-enforced restrictions before choosing it. Asking an assistant not to write, or seeing a tool marked readOnlyHint, does not remove write access from its credentials.
For any connector, check the result in WordPress after a change. If a request fails or times out, inspect the saved state before repeating it. Revoke a test credential and confirm that another request is denied before relying on your access-removal process.
What does the AI connection cost?
With a supported subscription connection, you can use your own AI subscription without extra Niwa AI usage charges or Niwa-imposed usage limits on that connection. The provider’s allowance and account rules still apply. API-based connections have the provider’s separate billing model, so choose the connection that suits your account and workload.
For an existing WordPress site, ask about the standalone Niwa AI plugin and the workflows you want enabled.
Niwa Business is USD 150 and includes a custom WordPress website or migration, hosting, maintenance and AI tools adapted to your business. It suits businesses that want the website and its AI workflows set up together.
An AI-built website uses AI during design or content creation. An AI-powered business website continues using AI after launch to answer questions, help with bookings or carry out owner tasks.
Discuss your WordPress workflow with Niwa. Include your website, the AI assistant or subscription you want to use and one job you want completed. You can discuss the standalone plugin or request the Niwa Business offer with the scope and billing terms for your setup.
