How to Increase AOV in WooCommerce

Configure relevant product links and a carefully costed offer in WooCommerce, then verify the cart, checkout and reporting before judging the result.

To increase AOV in WooCommerce, start with useful linked products, then test one bundle, shipping threshold or restricted coupon against completed-order results. WooCommerce already includes basic upsells, cross-sells, free shipping and coupons. Configure those features before adding another extension.

Niwa's storefront assistant can bring your catalog and linked products into a customer conversation, helping the shopper compare options and choose an available variant. The store's prices, inventory and product relationships remain the foundation.

Record the current store result

Open WooCommerce Analytics and choose a representative period. Save the order count, net sales and AOV, along with returns and coupons. Record your traffic and completed-order conversion using the measurement tools already installed.

Check Analytics settings for excluded order statuses and the date basis. A report using payment dates should not be compared casually with one using order-creation dates. See the WooCommerce analytics guide for its definitions and settings.

Set a practical target: increase contribution from eligible visitors while preserving checkout completion. Do not treat a larger AOV number as enough by itself.

Add the first linked product

In the classic editor, go to Products, open the main product, and find Product data > Linked Products. Search for a suitable product in the Upsells or Cross-sells field and update the product.

Use Upsells for alternatives to the main item, such as a grinder with a feature the buyer needs. Use Cross-sells for complementary items, such as filters that fit a selected brewer. Related products are a separate, automatically generated selection based on shared categories and tags.

The current linked-products documentation covers these differences. In a block product editor, the corresponding fields may appear in the editing sidebar. Your theme determines where recommendations appear, so inspect the actual storefront after saving.

Check both a product page and a cart containing the main item. Confirm that the recommendation has the right image, price and available variant. Remove a relationship when it stops being accurate.

Choose one additional offer

If shoppers need a kit, use a bundle implementation that handles its contents and inventory. A list of recommendations is not the same thing as a purchasable bundle with component stock. Start by checking what your existing store already supports.

For a spend-based delivery offer, open WooCommerce > Settings > Shipping, edit the applicable shipping zone, and add or edit Free shipping. Select a minimum-order requirement and enter a threshold your margin can support. Decide whether qualification is calculated before or after coupon discounts. WooCommerce documents the checkbox and coupon combinations.

For a restricted discount, use Marketing > Coupons. Choose the discount type and amount, then review Usage restriction and Usage limits. Native options include minimum spend, product restrictions, sale-item exclusions and individual-use settings. Save and test the exact offer. A minimum spend does not automatically make a discount profitable.

Do not change all three mechanisms together. Choose the one that addresses a real buying need, and keep the others available for later tests.

Connect Niwa to the same catalog

Existing WordPress stores can install the standalone Niwa plugin. Follow the Niwa setup guide: establish the supported AI connection, prepare the business information and enable the storefront functions you need. Keep variant prices, stock and product attributes current.

Test a specific exchange. A shopper explains what they need, Niwa presents suitable catalog options, and the shopper selects a variant. A related accessory should have a clear link to the purchase. Use the supported product controls to add the chosen item and inspect the cart afterward.

If using Niwa Conversion, set the permitted basket value, item count, discount and coupon duration in its configuration. It checks those conditions and creates a time-limited WooCommerce coupon when the shopper accepts. Use an offer you have costed. Do not let the assistant invent a discount or compatibility claim.

Verify the whole purchase

Use a test order on your safe testing setup and examine these cases:

  • The customer buys only the original item.
  • The customer accepts the suggested accessory and chooses its variant.
  • A recommended item is unavailable.
  • A coupon changes free-shipping eligibility.
  • The customer removes an item after qualifying for an offer.
  • A bundle reaches payment and reduces the appropriate component stock.

Check the mobile layout too. Recommendations should not cover the order total, product controls or checkout button. Verify the order record rather than counting an add-to-cart message as a completed sale.

Decide from orders and cost

Compare the changed experience with similar eligible traffic or a controlled test. Track completed purchases, accessory attachment, net sales, AOV, refunds and contribution after delivery and discount costs. Traffic-source changes, seasonality and a few large orders can distort a simple before-and-after comparison.

Keep the setup that supports a useful purchase and a worthwhile result. If you need a new store or migration, Niwa Business is USD 150 and includes a custom WordPress website or migration, hosting, maintenance and AI adaptation. Send Niwa your store address and the product relationship you want to configure.
